Meet the Elders

Mark Carter, Lead Pastor

Pastor Carter serves as Lead Pastor of Torch of Faith. ‘Carter’ is really Pastor Mark’s last name, but most folks  just call him ‘Carter’. He received a Masters of Pastoral Ministry degree from Trinity Theological Seminary in 2008. Carter is currently pursuing an additional MA in Biblical Exposition from Moody Bible Institute.

Carter has a burden and passion that people would know the thrill and joy of walking deeply and tightly with Jesus Christ through dynamic encounters with Him in the Word of God.

Pastor Carter is stoked about genuine spiritual substance and raising up leaders who will tap their unique giftedness and walk in the power of the Spirit, becoming a blessing to the earth.

What the Elder Board does.

Nathan Schramm

Nathan Schramm serves as one of the Elders of Torch of Faith Church.  He is highly analytical, loves problem-solving, and loves spending time with his wife Victoria and their son Ryan.  Nathan graduated with both a Bachelors of Arts in Architecture from The University of Illinois at Chicago as well as a Masters of Architecture from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He desires to continually know God more, and his ministry passion is leadership; he currently serves as one of our Sunday Morning Worship Experience leaders, where he enjoys leading and working with various division leaders to strive towards a goal of excellence.  Nathan always enjoys a good movie, but also loves the outdoors/nature and is big into sports as he enjoys playing tennis as well as cheering for his favorite teams and watching various sports (which he wishes he could / could still play) when he has the opportunity.

Jake Winter

Jake Winter is an elder of Torch of Faith Church, and was been a part of Torch since the beginning. He works in software development at a large software company. He adores learning about theology, doctrine, and apologetics.
In addition to developing himself, he enjoys mentoring folks, helping people new to Christianity to understand what it’s all about, and just talking about theology in general. When he’s not doing any of that, you’ll probably find him lost in the woods somewhere.

Nate Gest

Nate Gest is blessed to serve as one of the Elders of Torch of Faith.  Nate met his wife Allison while attending the University of Minnesota. He also attended graduate school and taught at Loyola University Chicago.  He is now a full-time stay-at-home dad to his three wonderful children (Ellie, AJ and Ben).

Nate loves to learn and enjoys teaching. His ministry passion is leading small groups, learning about theology, and reading about church leadership. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and the occasional round of golf.

David Bowman, Elder

I am privileged to serve as an Elder for Torch of Faith church.  We have seen God bring us to this exciting point in ministry and we lean on our everlasting father’s arms as we participate in the adventure God has ahead.

I want to encourage people with the good news of Jesus and the new life we have in him.   This was stated in my devotions: Through Jesus, our past is forgiven, our present is given meaning and our future is secure.

My wife and I are parents to our 4 adult children and get the exciting job of being grandparents to our two grandsons 3 & 1.

I like to take walks and hikes with my wife and we enjoy seeing the truth of God’s word from Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…”
